Monophonic
Definition
Mono- alone, single. Phonic- sound, voice
Monophonic is the easiest texture to understand.
Anytime there is only one sound being performed then the texture is monophonic.
The texture is also monophonic if all parts are playing the exact same thing (unison) or they are in octaves. Therefore a performance at football game where the crowd all sing the exact same song at the same time would be monophonic, even though there maybe thousands of people singing together.
REMEMBER listen to the layers and not just how many there are at once!
